06/22/07 As you can see I haven't been keeping this up to date for a while. I will try to do better. No excuse, but being here by myself has taken a toll on keeping this up to date.

At this time RAIC is in the process of expanding into Bandon. I hope to have that done by next month and be serving customers then. There are still some problems to iron out regarding co-location of our equipment.

On another note, Monday at noon will see the new mail server for RAIC customers go on line. If you are a wireless customer please make sure that you have downloaded all your mail by then. This should be a big improvement over the server that is now running. As well as POP3 mail RAIC will now have web based mail available again. It has been a task getting this server upa nd tested but it is running fine and should serve us well for some time.

12/16/04 -- For the Myrtle Point wireless customers, we want to express our apologies for the recent outages. First the power at Bennett Butte then in Coquille.

Fortunately since the county has it's radio system in the same general area, restoring the power was a priority. During the afternoon of the 14th the access point locked up requiring a trip to the mountian to reboot. At this time I am talking to Proxim as to the cause of the lockup.

I headed out to the mountian only to find that someone had closed the gate and placed a lock on it. None of the people that should have had a key did. As this was late in the afternoon I had to wait until the next day for the County to get there and break the lock. This happened the afternoon of the 15th and service was restored.

Again thank you for your patience. I have ordered a unit that will allow me to reset all the systems remotely. That should help with any future problems of this kind.

10/25/04 -- As stated on the web based mail page for some time Squirrel Mail has been replaced, and is no longer accessible.
I aplolgize if this causes a problem for you. It was done to make a better and more secure mail client.

07/30/04 At shortly after 6:00pm Coquille suffered a power failure that took down our wireless network.
Service was restored at 7:15 PM.

03/18/04 --We will be performing filesystem maintenance and security upgrades on the following servers beginning Friday the 19th at 12:00AM.

1. Primary email server 2. FTP and domain hosting server

Part of this maintenance will include an upgrade to a new journaling filesystem to increase performance and stability. This will involve migrating apx 200GB of data twice which will involve considerable time. We expect the entire process to take no longer than 4 hours.

All security upgrades will happen simultaneously and not require any additional downtime.

All email scheduled to be delivered during the maintenance window will be not be lost. It will be redelivered once the server comes back live.

02/13/04 -- As some of you know we have been providing Wireless Broadband to the City of Coquille for several months.
We are happy to announce that the coverage area has been expanded to include the City of Myrtle Point.
A web page is under development that will detail this and other things related to the wireless offering.

02/13/04 -- It has come to my attention that the signup page e-mail hasn't been working. This has been repaired.

10/16/03 -- While preparing for the update due 10/16/03 the technicians were backing up some files. The added load apparently caused drive failures in server at about 6:00pm 10-15-03. This caused a mail and web page outage.

E-mail service and personal web page service has been restored with the exception of web based e-mail. Web based E-mail is still down with an ETA of late this afternoon.

Sorry for any inconveniences. The good news is that since the system had to be restored the new server that was scheduled to be installed tonight is now installed. This should make the planned outage tonight much shorter.

10/15/03 -- Tomorrow evening (10/16/2003) at 10:00PM PDT we will begin a complete hardware and software upgrade for the primary accounts server. This server manages all ISP websites, incoming and outgoing email, as well as user's personal webspace. This upgrade will solve intermittent SMTP connection issues as well as over quadruple the available storage capacity and speed for email and webspaces.

Below is a schedule of expected downtimes. The times listed may be off by up to 30 minutes. The following schedule was created to ensure no customer email is lost. All times listed are PDT (Pacific Daylight Time).

Service affecting breakdown:

- 11:00PM: We will begin a network file copy of all home dir and email data. This is expected to take just under 3 hours. During this time (to ensure complete email consistency) customers will be unable to send or receive email. They will receive timeout notices when trying. Personal web sites will function fine during this time.

- 2:00AM: IP addresses from the old server will be migrated to the new server. This is expected to take apx 30 minutes. During this time, all web and email access to the server will be disabled.

- 2:30AM: All data will be extracted and deposited into the user space. This is expected to take apx 1 hour. During this time customers will be able to check, but not send email. Web services will function.

- 3:30AM: All services will be restored. Customers will be able to send and receive email.

07/30/03 -- A core router at our NOC sufferred a denial of service (DOS) attack at apx 8:00PM PDT. The attack caused some of the interfaces on the router to stop sending traffic which affected many services including authentication, websites, and email.

A patch has been issued by Cisco to prevent this DOS attack in the future and has been applied. All services were restored at 8:30PM PDT.

03/07/03 --Filters have been installed to eliminate the blank e-mails. If you receive any after today please let us know.

03/06/03 --Some of our customers have been receiving blank e-mails. These may have blank attachments as well.

We are attempting to locate the source of these e-mails. If you receive these just delete them. They are not virus related nor do they seem to have any purpose or cause any ill effects.

02/20/03 --We will be performing some software and hardware upgrades to the frontpage hosting server Monday, Feb 24th at 2:00AM. Estimated downtime will be less than 30 minutes.

Part of this upgrade is to add extended support for newer versions of MS Frontpage.

01/21/03 (16:30) --This was just about to be a service still down update but just received a notice that the issue in the So Oregon LATA has been corrected ahead of schedule.

01/21/03 (08:30) -- Customers dialing into the Southern Lata in Oregon are currently receiving a fast busy signal on Networks A & E due to an outage with a SS7 switch located within the telco.

01/17/03 -- Please log into the spam filter and enable your virus protection. We now filter viruses at the server level

01/02/03 (16:30) --The all circuits busy errors in Northern California have stopped. The telco reports the problems have been solved.

01/12/03 (13:15) -- A large telco in Northern California currently is suffering an outage which is causing many numbers on Network-A and other networks to be giving operator messages saying All Circuits are Busy.

12/31/02 (12:05) --The telco has confirmed the busy issue in So. Oregon permanently fixed.

12/30/02 (13:15) -- In some of our Southern Oregon areas, namely Grants Pass, Medford, Roseburg, and Bend the telco is producing busy signals to customers attempting to dial their local numbers. We are currently contacting the telco to have them repair the issue.

12/16/02 (10:17) -- The ISP hosting the customer which was flooding our mail server did not respond fast enough to the DOS attack ticket we entered with them and we have temporarily firewalled them to free up the resources on our mail server until they have their problem corrected.

12/16/02 (10:17) -- Customers sending email may notice slower than normal connections this morning due to a DOS email attack coming into one of our primary email servers. They have attempted already to send over 350,000 messages, all of which have been blocked by our mail server. We have already contacted the ISP who is sending the traffic and they are locating the offending customer to stop the attack.

12/13/02 -- Our NOC (and the surrounding city) suffered a power outage this morning at apx 7:30AM. The outage lasted until 11:30AM. Most services were maintained by UPS and backup generators throughout the power outage. However, as a result of the power fluxuations, the primary mail server as well as the ftp hosting server suffered minor issues.

The mail server has been restored completely, there was no data loss, and all email will be successfully delivered. The hosting server also has been restored with no data loss.

12/12/02 -- We will be doing some maintenance on the router which connects the majority of incoming Qwest DSL connections for the Seattle, WA and surrounding areas Thursday morning at 1:00AM. During this time the router will be rebooted a couple of times. Users connected during this time using the internet will experience a few brief outages of 2-5 minutes each between 1:00AM and 3:00AM.

11/26/02 -- As most of you know by now, our dialup outage yesterday was caused by a fire in Coos Bay. The Farwest parts store was consumed by a fire wherein three of our firefighters lost their lives.

As of 10:30 last night all dialup has been restored.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the firefighters that lost their lives.

The Staff at WebEnet

11/21/02 Well, now.

I’m setting at my desktop doing my (for want of another word) work and windows messenger pops up with a spam.

After a little checking I find that in Windows 2000 and Windows XP Windows Messaging runs as a service and is defaulted to automatic. Not only that, but it listens on all devices including the modem. Spammers are targeting blocks of addresses with messenger now.

The fix is to go into services and disable the windows messaging service.

11/15/02 -2:30PM - We have been informed from the network provider that they are still experiencing intermittent issues in some areas in Washington state, but have alternate phone numbers available. If you are still experiencing issues with Net-E in Washington, please contact WebEnet and we will be able to provide you with an alternate dial-in number.

11/14/02 -5:44PM - WebEnet staff has been made aware of some issues with dialup customers on Network-E in Washington and Idaho. The network provider is aware of the problem, but as of this time, has no estimated time of repair. We will keep you updated as we receive status updates on this problem.

11/11/02 -12:55PM - The routing problem affecting Seattle Qwest DSL customers has been solved. Customers are again able to connect to the net via their DSL links. There is one remaining issue which is causing packet loss across the network which is making the connections seem slower than normal. This issue is still being looked into

11/11/02 - Sprint will be doing some quick preventative maintenance on one of our backbone circuits this morning beginning at 10:05AM. This maintenance is not expected to impact any customers, but there may be intermittent slowdowns in authentication between 10:05AM and 10:30AM.

11/11/02 - There is a routing problem in Seattle causing an intermittent loss of connectivity to customers connected via Qwest to DSL. We have contacted all uplinks and they are looking into the problem right now, which they say may be related to yesterday's DOS attack on one of Seattle's core routers. This outage appears to be affecting multiple ISPs in the Seattle areas.

11/07/02 - The issue with Network-A dialups in Oregon, which was caused by a routing problem, has been resolved as of 11AM PST. We have confirmed repeatedly that this problem has been completely solved and should not occur again.

11/07/02 - WebEnet has been made aware of an issue affecting some Network-A dialup customers in the Oregon area. Customers may be able to dial up and authenticate, but will have no connectivity and be unable to browse the web or retrieve/send email. WebEnet staff is currently working with our network providers to get this issue resolved, but currently there is no estimated time of repair.

11/07/02 - This issue (dialups in Northern Oregon - Net-A) was repaired by the Telco at approximately 11:45PM last night. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact WebEnet at (541) 396-3911
